Troy Ave Claims That TDE Wanted to Sign Him
Troy Ave recently made headlines for why he says people are saying he's the new Tupac; a sentiment he further is supporting with the release of his new album, NuPac.
Less than a week after dropping his new project, the rapper is making yet another massive claim. During a recent commentary reflecting on the making of his album, the rapper reveals that he almost signed to Top Dawg Entertainment.
During the 32-minute commentary track, interestingly titled Truth Be Told PSA, Troy Ave says that the opportunity first presented itself when he was in prison and spoke to Kendrick Lamar.
According to Ave, the Compton rapper sent his love and support while he was behind bars, saying something encouraging along the lines of "I see what you're going through, man."
Following this conversation, Ave then had his manager at the time, Hovain, try to work out a deal with TDE.
"I said, ‘Yo, put the plan in action, man," Ave reflected. "We gonna go out West when I come home and we gonna sign with TDE."
He then talks fondly of the label, but appears to blame his former manager for the missed opportunity.
"I always liked what they was doing," Ave said. “They kinda independent like us, but way bigger because they went and got with a major. They got s**t that I like to see, like loyalty and unity, that type of sh*t. Cool. I give [Hovain] the whole play. Of course, he can’t make that happen at all. At all. He doesn’t make it happen. The whole s**t just fell through."
Take a listen to the in-depth commentary from Troy Ave below, with the apparent TDE deal being addressed around the 14:45 mark.
