Ray Charles, James Brown among Black artists inducted into the first Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony.

Sixteen artists were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame during its first-ever ceremony on this day. Among them were some of the most famous African-American recording artists: Ray Charles, James Brown, Chuck Berry, Sam Cooke, Fats Domino, Little Richard, Robert Johnson and Jimmie Yancey.
