Watch: Colin Kaepernick's Girlfriend Has His Back Over National Anthem Sit Down
Colin Kaepernick sitting during the national anthem as a stance against violence and race in America has generated a heated national debate.
Well, whether the San Francisco 49ers quarterback's NFL peers agree or disagree with his form of protest, one thing is all the way clear — Kaep's girlfriend has his back.
Nessa, of Hot 97 and MTV's Girl Code, told Baller Alert on the red carpet of the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night that she supports her man "100 percent" and encourages him to "exercise his freedom of speech."
That same Sunday, Kaepernick defended his actions of sitting during the national anthem at the 49ers' preseason game Friday night.
"This country stands for freedom, liberty, justice for all — and it's not happening for all right now," Kaepernick told the media Sunday, as reported by NBC.
He further explained, "This is because I'm seeing things happen to people that don't have a voice, people that don't have a platform to talk and have their voices heard and effect change," the 49ers QB continued. "So I'm in a position where I can do that, and I'm going to do that for people that can't."
