Hip-Hop Has Thoughts On Singer Demi Lovato's Reported Drug Overdose
Prayers are still up for L.A.-bred pop singer Demi Lovato following heartbreaking reports of an alleged drug overdose that landed her in the hospital on Tuesday (July 25).
According to TMZ, Demi suffered what “appears to be a heroin overdose” as reported by law enforcement sources and was treated with emergency medication used to reverse narcotic overdoses (Narcan) upon the arrival of paramedics. No details behind apparent triggers of the alleged overdose have been reported, but the site adds that Demi was celebrating a friend’s birthday in West Hollywood the night prior.
The former Camp Rock actress has been open about her battle with substance abuse in her YouTube documentary, Demi Lovato: Simply Complicated, and 2013 novel, Staying Strong: 365 Days a Year. Demi had spent six years sober from alcoholism and harder drugs like cocaine and Oxycontin, which she also revealed addictions to. The release of her 2018 “Sober” record, where she admitted a relapse, also shed light on her fight against substance abuse.
Thankfully, latest updates reveal that the 25-year-old singer-songwriter talent has since recovered from the overdose, and is “awake and with her family.” There has been some incorrect information spread though, a representative from her team shared, as the Lovato family expressed their gratitude for prayers and love from fans and requested peace and privacy during this time. Some of the most major support is coming from Demi’s music-industry family as well. And everyone from her pop counterparts, like Ariana Grande, all the way to the hip-hop circle with Cardi B, is spreading more light and love to the “Sober” songstress amid her reported drug relapse.
Listen to TMZ’s released audio of the emergency phone call where police responders detail her condition and some of the Hollywood supporters who are sending up #PrayersForDemi in light of the news below.
