Rihanna and Jennifer Lopez brought it Home. The singers, who lent their voices to the music-inspired animated film, were clearly a huge draw at multiplexes, helping tally up a $54 million debut and first place finish for the flick. 
The film exceeded expectations with the best opening for a DreamWorks Animation film since Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted in summer 2012.
Coming in second was Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart‘s new comedy Get Hard, which brought in an impressive $34.6 million. The film was the highest-grossing R-rated comedy for both the box office stars. 
Insurgent, starring Shailene Woodley and Miles Teller, fell to third place in its second weekend, dropping 58 percent to $22 million for a domestic total of $86.4 million. So far, the film hasn't lived up to its predecessor Divergent.
Rounding out the top five are Disney’s Cinderella and the independent horror film It Follows, which brought in $17.5 million and $4 million, respectively.
Next week, Furious 7 is expected to blaze to the top of the box office, leaving all other titles in the dust. But for those seeking more thought-provoking fare, the Spike Lee-produced, Columbus Short-starring drama The Girl Is in Trouble also opens in select theaters.
