How Bow Wow Talks To His Daughter About Black Lives Matter Protests
As a result of the police killing of George Floyd going viral and the ongoing protests around the country, Bow Wow spoke on how his views on race and politics have changed.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, the Growing Up Hip Hop star discussed how he’s been talking about the Black Lives Matter movement with his 9-year-old daughter, Shai, and he also addressed some controversial tweets from 2016.
Bow Wow found himself embroiled in controversy after someone asked him who he planned to vote for during the presidential election, Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump.
At the time, Bow Wow had decided he was going to stay out of politics which angered a few people, who brought up how his ancestors sacrificed themselves for him to have the right to vote. The rapper and reality star responded that he’s of mixed heritage so things were different for him and that he only believes “what the eye can see.”
Although he told Entertainment Tonight his tweets were “misconstrued” at the time, Bow Wow shared that he’s inspired by protestors to use his platform to raise awareness for social and political issues.
“By me looking out the window and seeing all races, all colors, protesting, marching for the cause, I felt like, ‘Yo, I gotta get down there and walk with them.’ That's what I did. It's right in front of me... something has affected me here in our country," he said. “I got a 9-year-old daughter that I'm raising during this crazy time, asking Dad questions, and I'm making sure I got the answers. You get the answers by getting out there, getting active, watching the news. For me, that's been the biggest change.”
He also said that he’s regularly talking to his daughter about what’s going on in the world, telling the outlet, “there's a lot of work that needs to be done, but I believe we're going about things the right way. We have to be happy, it's bigger than anything else. It's the cause that matters, it's the people that matter. And we just have to act accordingly.”
