Report: Beyoncé Is Almost Officially Confirmed for A Star Is Born
Last week we heard that Beyoncé was turning her attention to finding her next great film role, and now it seems she's done it.
The pop icon and sometimes-actress has signed on to play the lead in A Star Is Born, according to Page Six. The new incarnation of the classic will be directed by none other than The Hangover's Bradley Cooper.
“Beyoncé is a go,” said “a source,” who added that Cooper is trying to cram in another part or two before he jumps behind the camera for his directorial debut. “He’s out to find the rest of the cast, but he may take another acting role [in the meantime]. He’s furiously making everything he can.”
A source close to the singer, however, recently said that she's done with musicals — she even turned down the chance to star in The Wiz Live! — and has been taking acting classes to find herself an "iconic dramatic role." Perhaps the Academy Award winner Cooper convinced her to do it one more time. She is gunning for that Oscar, after all, and it seems like the American Sniper star is nominated every year.
Bey has been attached to A Star Is Born before. The project was previously being developed as a starring vehicle for her with Clint Eastwood attached to direct, and before that, One Fine Day director Michael Hoffman was holding the reigns.
The play tells the tale of the love affair between a young, burgeoning starlet and an aging has-been actor. This would be the fourth version of the film: it was first made in 1937 with Janet Gaynor and Fredric March, then remade in 1954 with Judy Garland and James Mason, and again in 1976 with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson.
Either way, we'll take a Beyoncé film any way we can get it.
Though Cooper is reportedly hoping to make the film and have it out by 2017, Bey has yet to confirm the news herself.
