Ciara Shows Off Her Baby Bump And Celebrates Black Excellence In ‘Rooted’ Music Video
Just weeks after welcoming her second child with NFL star Russell Wilson, Ciara has released a new anthem “Rooted” with singer-songwriter and actress Ester Dean.
The single dropped at midnight on Thursday (August 13).
Arriving amid renewed conversation surrounding the Black Lives Matter movement following the police killing of George Floyd and the coronavirus pandemic, the four-minute visual powerfully paid tribute to Black culture.
Unveiling her latest release on Instagram, the R&B singer revealed that the music video was filmed just two days before she gave birth to her son Win Wilson towards the end of July.
“ATL bred I’m #Rooted. Shot this video 2 days before delivery, Covid style! Out now!” she wrote.RELATED: Ciara Gives Birth To Baby Boy With Russell Wilson By Her Side
In the video, Ciara’s baby bump is on full display throughout in homage to Black motherhood. Though she was pregnant, Ciara busts out her best moves while highlighting other Black dancers. Even her two children, Future, 6, and Sienna, 3, make cameos in the visual. There were nods to the Black Lives Matter movement and a woman wearing a Breonna Taylor shirt can also be seen.
Ciara highlights the perseverance of Black people, singing, “All my songs come with melanin / Got the heart, got the soul like Harriet / A queen since she born, that was evident / That’s evidence, of Black evidence.”As the music video draws to its end, a message appears that reads, “To all my young Rosa's and young Luther's, keep marching. Don't stop fighting for what you believe in. To all my Black queens and kings, continue to plant and spread seeds of love, hope and pride in your tribe. Everything you need to survive and thrive is rooted in you. Stay rooted.”
A portion of proceeds from the song will go to support the philanthropic organization Grantmakers for Girls of Color.
