Chicago Protesters Plan Black Friday March Over Death of Laquan McDonald

Michigan Ave. to be interrupted on busiest shopping day of the year.

Protesters in Chicago plan to March along Chicago's busy streets to bring recognition to the growing problems with police brutality, which they believe led to the death of Laquan McDonald.

Just a few days ago, a horrific dash-cam video was released by authorities showing the 17 year-old ruthlessly shot 16 times by officer Jason Van Dyke last October.

Currently Van Dyke, 37 is being held without bond with a charge of 1st Degree Murder.

The march is set to begin along Michigan Ave. on 'Black Friday', one of the country's busiest shopping days of the year. It is the hope of protesters that the financial loss will create an impact that will not only illuminate the issues of racism in Chicago but force much needed change.

Rev Al Sharpton said "It's not enough to focus on what brought us here today — the execution of this young man." He continued, "We want mass demonstrations, mass voter registration."

On Thursday, Sharpton and other leaders announced plans to begin a summit on Police reform in Chicago.

Rev. Marshall Hatch, co-chairman of the Leaders Network of Chicago shared similar sentiments saying, "Laquan McDonald was a ward of the state, killed by an officer of the state in a public place." He went on to conclude that, "From this tragedy and crisis, we need fundamental police reform, as well as an urban policy that offers life options for our young people."
