Chance The Rapper Went On Instagram Live While Being Pulled Over By Police
Chance the Rapper has long been outspoken about the harsh reality of police brutality. While he's often used his platform to address how to counter excessive force used by authorities, the entertainer found himself in a hair-raising situation when he was recently pulled over by Chicago law enforcement.
On Sunday (Oct. 9), the Grammy-winning artist was behind the wheel with the mother of his child, Kirsten Corley, as well as his daughter when he was pulled over. Instinctively, Chano pulled out his phone to begin recording the encounter via Instagram Live feed. Chance ensured fans that he was recording the ordeal “in case it gets out of hand.”
Despite his precautions, he does mention that he has faith in humanity and those that wear badges. “Just want y’all to be here in case it gets out of hand,” Chance says during the video. “Should be good though. Should be straight… I have great faith in humanity and the men and women that put on the badge, but, you know, you can’t be too careful.”
The rapper also makes a point to mention that the family was heading back home from church, and that they don’t have any drugs or guns inside of the vehicle. “But policing as a system is disproportionately racist and oppressive,” he continued. “I ain’t got no [gun] in the car, no drugs in the car. Nothing going on, just came back from church.”
Thankfully, the rapper was only issued a warning. Watch the livestream of Chance's encounter with police, below.
