We Are Loving How Cory Booker Finessed A 'Diss' Into A Cute Date With Mindy Kaling On Twitter
Cory Booker is one of the rising stars of the Democratic Party. He’s also got some game outside of politics.
A recent episode of Mindy Kaling’s Hulu series “The Mindy Project” had her character, Mindy Lahiri, throwing a jab at Cory Booker and the New Jersey city he was once mayor of.
During the episode, Mindy appeared puzzled as to why the now-senator attended a friend’s event. "Cory Booker? I can't believe he came," Lahiri said on the show. "I guess anything to get out of Newark, huh?" Ouch. As a proud Jersey representer, Booker fired back on Twitter.
"Ouch!" Booker tweeted, accompanied by a broken heart emoji. "Heard Dr. Lahiri dissed Newark last night ... & I disagree." This had Kaling tweeting back, attempting to reassure it was a joke and actually a compliment because anything her character thinks is lame is actually cool.
"Senator, if Mindy Lahiri shades it, it means we know it's cool. Thanks for the love. It's mutual!" she tweeted, accompanied by a heart emoji.
That’s when the Senator and his sly game went full throttle.
"You are making my day! Thanks for the clarification,” he tweeted. "And If the love is really mutual ... Come have dinner with me in Newark?" Again using the heart-shaped emoji to signify love.
All eyes were then on Kaling who then did agree to the dinner date. She also said she’ll have to check the PATH schedule. PATH is the rail line running between New York and New Jersey.
PATH offered the two their schedule in a subsequent tweet, however Booker decided it would be best if he just use a Lyft to pick her up.
It’s now Kaling’s call as to where or when the date will be set up.
BTW, we’re all for this, even if it doesn’t lead to them being a couple.
