Black, Latino Girls More Likely to Seek Leadership Opportunities
A new study by the Girl Scouts reveals that Black and Latino girls are more likely to overcome adversity and seek leadership opportunities.
In a new study by Girl Scouts of the USA, the group found that African-American and Latino girls aspired to leadership roles more often than white girls and had more frequent and positive leadership experiences.
The study, The Resilience Factor: A Key to Leadership in African American and Hispanic Girls, also found that African-American and Hispanic girls also rate themselves higher than white girls in overall self-confidence, a key leadership indicator.
The group claims that instead of social and cultural challenges discouraging African-American and Latino girls, obstacles like racism, inequity and injustice are factors that increase the girls’ resilience and capacity for leadership.
