Watch Live: Vice President Kamala Harris' Rally on Reproductive Rights in Texas
The stage is set for an electrifying night in Houston as Vice President Kamala Harris joins forces with two musical icons—Beyoncé and Willie Nelson—at a rally focused on reproductive rights, according to the New York Times.
This Friday’s event, taking place in the heart of Beyoncé's hometown, aims to shine a spotlight on the importance of abortion rights and energize supporters ahead of the 2024 election. The event will be live-streamed on BET's Facebook page starting at 9:30 ET PM.
Beyoncé’s involvement adds immense star power to Harris’s campaign. Known for her anthems of empowerment, the pop superstar has allowed the Harris campaign to use “Freedom” from her Lemonade album, a song that has already become the vice president’s theme music at campaign events. Fans may recognize it from Harris’s stage entrances, where the anthem sets a powerful tone.
The rally will also feature country music legend Willie Nelson, a staunch advocate for social issues. Both artists' involvement highlights the broad coalition Harris is building around themes of personal freedom and reproductive rights—issues central to her campaign. Harris’s appearance will also bolster Democratic Rep. Colin Allred, who is challenging Republican Senator Ted Cruz in a closely-watched Texas Senate race.
Harris will use the event to critique the almost-total abortion ban in Texas and target former President Donald Trump, whose appointment of three Supreme Court justices paved the way for overturning Roe v. Wade. Though Texas leans Republican, the rally underscores the Democratic nominee’s push to mobilize support for reproductive rights and challenge GOP-led restrictions.
