Cipha Sounds and Hot 97 Part Ways
Another veteran member of Hot 97 has parted ways with the New York City radio station.
“Effective immediately,” Cipha Sounds is “no longer with WQHT Hot 97 FM,” the station said in a statement to BET.com, adding, “We wish him well on his future endeavors.”
Cipha released a statement of his own via Instagram today. “After 17 years, I'm leaving Hot 97. I'm changing my relationship status from ‘it’s complicated’ to ‘single’. It’s been an amazing ride — from intern to weekends to morning show host to fill Angie's seat in afternoons. Many years of incredible, life-changing experiences and enough amazing memories to last five lifetimes. The next move is already underway and I promise it's going to be huge.”
Last week, Cipha aired out his frustrations with Hot 97 during his Juan Epstein podcast with Peter Rosenberg. At the time, he said that the relationship with Hot 97 was “up in the air.”
Cipha's departure comes behind that of DJ Mister Cee in November 2014 and Angie Martinez last June.
