Jay-Z Signs Development Deal With Adult Swim
Jay-Z was reportedly scheduled to announce a new partnership with Adult Swim on the night of his performance for the Cartoon Network’s nighttime sibling’s upfront presentation on Wednesday. The rapper did indeed perform that night, but left without formally announcing any new business dealings with the network. Ad Week was the first to report the story.
The site confirmed with sources close to Adult Swim that Jay-Z would be forming a partnership to develop original programming. This is Jay-Z’s first foray into TV. Details are scant, with no word on whether Jay-Z will lend his vocals or music to future projects.
Neither Adult Swim nor the Cartoon Network is a stranger to working with rappers. Previously, Danger Mouse and MF Doom delivered the album The Mouse and the Mask to Adult Swim, while André 3000 of Outkast had the animated series Class of 3000 on the Cartoon Network. The L.A. skate-rap collective Odd Future announced that they were filming a pilot for Adult Swim back in March.
