The Weeknd came out of left field earlier today (September 21) with an unexpected announcement sharing he has an album on the way.

Additionally, as the singer revealed via Instagram, he decided to switch things up and trade in his signature dreaded hair for a fresh new cut.

Judging from the cover art featuring his new look, and factoring in the album’s title, Starboy, this new project may be the introduction to an alter ego or simply a new chapter for the artist.

The announcement comes in on the vague side, simply revealing the new album cover and its name, as well as shouting out the photographer, Nabildo, who shot the project's cover.

A source close to the Weeknd shared that the album will feature a new sound from the singer and that the new haircut was a “deliberate decision” reflecting this new chapter.
