SZA Brings Chic Appeal as Honoree at WSJ. Magazine's 13th Annual Innovator Awards
SZA shined bright at Wall Street Journal's 13th annual Innovator Awards at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City this week.
The singer dressed in a chic black ensemble that included a black Maison Margiela frock dress with an intricate white collar. She coupled the dress with black pointy pumps and white ruffle socks. While it is a controversial pairing, this trend has become popular this year.
For a pop of color and added flair, she accessorized with a red ribbon in her hair.
The artist who dominated the charts with "Kill Bill" was recognized as one of the six honorees at the event. The magazine gave her the title of "Music Innovator of the Year" to acknowledge her impactful contributions to the industry.
Notably, her 2022 album, “SOS,” achieved an impressive feat by securing the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for ten non-consecutive weeks immediately upon its debut. Homegirl did that!
This year's honorees included Margot Robbie, Anitta, Anthony Vaccarello, and Maya Rudolph. The star-studded event drew attendees like J Balvin, Pat McGrath and Questlove.
SZA took to Instagram to thank the WSJ and show off her new shiny award. "Thank you so much to @wsjmag for honoring me and having me this evening 🥹" she captioned the carousel of photos.
The STL-born singer's style has always been top-tier. She's found a way to carve her lane in every way. When she previously chatted with PEOPLE, right after her second collection launch with Crocs in December 2022, she explained that she layers sexiness with what she calls her "deep Brooklyn normcore."
In true Scorpio style, she admits that she dresses based on her mood, and the rest of her day falls into place.
The star added some advice she would give to young girls and women striving to express themselves unapologetically. "In general [it's about] not doing what people tell you to do and just following your heart, even if it feels wrong in terms of disappointing people or making alternative decisions."
