The White House announced a two-week extension for the deadline to complete enrollment in a health insurance plan, the latest in a series of delays and other adjustments. It is necessary, administration officials argue, to meet a "surge in demand" and ensure that consumers can complete the enrollment process already started, but people will not be asked to provide proof.

Republican leaders swiftly cried foul, accusing President Obama of once again trying to sidestep the law.

“What the hell is this? A joke?” said House Speaker John Boehner at his weekly press briefing. “Another deadline made meaningless. If he hasn’t put enough loopholes in the law already, the administration is now resorting to an honor system to enforce it.”

The Ohio lawmaker added that the latest delay is "part of a long-term pattern of this administration manipulating the laws for its own convenience" leading Americans to "question this administration’s commitment to the rule of law."

Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus also slammed the deadline extension.

"Another day, another Obamacare delay from the same Obama administration that won't work with Republicans to help Americans suffering from the unintended consequences of the Democrats' failed health care law," he said in a statement.

Obama senior adviser Dan Pfeiffer believes that Republicans simply don't want people to sign up for health care coverage.

"The reason the GOP is so upset abt allowing people to finish signing up for health care is simple: they want fewer people to sign up," he tweeted Wednesday morning.
HealthCare.gov on Monday experienced its second-highest traffic day with 1.1 million visitors logging on.
