Thabo Sefolosha Blames Police for Season-Ending Injury
Atlanta Hawks small forward Thabo Sefolosha is blaming the New York Police Department for his season-ending injury he suffered outside an NYC nightclub early last Wednesday.
A day after it was reported that the National Basketball Players Association is investigating the events, Sefolosha is placing the blame on the police for his broken tibia.
"On advice of counsel, I hope you can appreciate that I cannot discuss the facts of the case. Those questions will be answered by my attorney in a court of law. I will simply say that I am in great pain, have experienced a significant injury and that the injury was caused by the police," Sefolosha said in a statement to TMZ Sports on Tuesday.
The NYPD has launched its own internal affairs investigation into the matter.
Sefolosha, who was averaging 5.3 points per game for the Hawks this season, will miss the playoffs due to the injury. His teammate Pero Antic was also arrested for allegedly preventing police from setting up a crime scene after Indiana Pacers small forward Chris Copeland was stabbed outside of the 1 OAK club in Manhattan. Copeland's wife was also stabbed in the wild scene, which reportedly ignited after an argument. They were both released from the hospital this past weekend.
Their alleged stabber, Shezoy Bleary, was arrested for the attacks. Ironically, the No. 1 Hawks could wind up facing the Pacers in the first round of the NBA playoffs.
