Suit: CVS Security Workers Told to Profile Black and Latino Customers
Retailers should know better than to racially profile customers. Clearly it's wrong, but also given the fact that other stores have been slapped with lawsuits for the same offense. Just ask Barney's and Macy's.
But now four former New York City CVS security employees are letting the lid off on their supervisors who told them that they should target Black and Hispanic customers, the New York Daily News reports.
“It made me feel horrible. It was uncomfortable, overwhelming,” said Lacole Simpson, 32, who was one of the "market investigators" ordered to target customers based on their race. Sheree Steele, Kerth Polock and Delbert Sorhaindo are also plaintiffs in the class-action lawsuit.
The investigators were fired this year after complaining to management about their treatment. They were also harassed because of their race, as they are also Black or Hispanic, the suit filed in a Manhattan court stated.
A CVS spokesperson told the Daily News that the company does not tolerate discrimination. "We are shocked by the allegations in this complaint and we intend to defend against them vigorously,” their representative said.
