Beyoncé Supports Marriage Equality
While the Supreme Court continues to debate the fate of marriage equality in Washington, Beyoncé is letting the world know where she stands.
The multiplatinum star posted a message to her Instagram page on Tuesday in support of LGBT rights. "If you like it, you should be able to put a ring on it," reads the handwritten note, a play off of the singer's most famous lyric.
This isn't the first time Bey has been inspired to speak out in support of an LGBT cause. The music industry royal and mother of one-year-old Blue Ivy Carter penned a message to singer/producer Frank Ocean last July, calling him "fearless...honest...and brave" for revealing in an open letter that his first love was a man.
The "Love on Top" singer and her husband Jay-Z, who are close friends of President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, have been calling for marriage equality for quite some time. The Roc Nation boss praised the president for his pro-gay marriage stance last year, calling it "the right thing to do."
The Supreme Court of the United States is current deep in debate on whether or not California's Proposition 8, defining marriage as "between one man and one woman," is unconstitutional.
