Police Charge Two Men In Homicide Of Milwaukee Woman Who Was Set On Fire
The Milwaukee police charged two men in connection with the killing of a woman and burning her body. Investigators believe Kania Brunson, the 20-year-old victim, was dating her alleged killer, who was married.
WISN reported on Oct. 28 that authorities charged Sultan Shareef with first-degree intentional homicide and mutilating a corpse. Shareef’s brother-in-law, Johnny Hopgood, was charged with mutilating a corpse and harboring or aiding a felon.
According to the police, Brunson met with Shareef on the morning of the murder, WDJT reported. Shareef’s friend called 911 on Sept. 24 after he said that he saw Shareef on top of Brunson in Shareef’s car and that “the female stated, ‘he cut my throat,’ she was screaming and pleading for help.”
The police allege that Hopgood joined Shareef later and set Brunson’s remains on fire in an attempt to dispose of her body. Her remains were discovered on Sept. 24.
Brunson’s mother, Jennifer Meadows, told WDJT that Shareef contacted her a week before the murder. “He goes on to say I want to be done messing with your daughter but she's reaching out to my wife,” Meadows said.
During the investigation, Shareef’s wife claimed that he was with her on the night of the murder, but video evidence contradicted her claim.
Meadows described Brunson, who was enrolled in beauty school, as her best friend. “She was everything to me. She was everything and this is the most hurtful feeling,” the grieving mother stated.
Brunson’s stepfather, Cameron Meadows, said, “She can make you smile right away. You know me and her, we laugh about the silliest things.”
Bond for Shareef was $500,000 and $50,000 for Hopgood.
