Dinosaurs once again ruled the earth — or, at least, the box office — this weekend, with Jurassic World coming out on top in its third weekend on screens. The film, starring Chris Pratt, scored an additional $54.2 million, setting a box office record for shortest time to cross the $500 million mark (17 days, in case you're counting).

The film narrowly beat out Disney/Pixar's acclaimed family film Inside Out, which earned $52.1 million in its second weekend, bringing its total to $184.9 million.

Seth MacFarlane's raunchy R-rated comedy Ted 2, starring Mark Wahlberg and a stuffed bear, suffered from competing with the two tentpoles coming in third place with $32.9 million. That's about $20 million less than the original film pulled in when it came out. Couldn't have helped that Ted 2 was massacred by the critics.

In fourth place was Max, the story of a Marine dog moving back to the USA after seeing war in Afghanistan, with $12.2 million. Melissa McCarthy's Spy rounded out the top five in its fourth weekend with $7.8 million, giving it nearly $90 million in box office total.

This week, Magic Mike XXL and Terminator: Genisys will aim for those holiday weekend dollars, but can either take a bite out of Jurassic Park?
