Lil Wayne is one of the most recognizable and sought-after names in hip hop, but the 28-year-old star is thinking about leaving it all behind. In an interview with MTV News, Wayne says he's not sure when he'll retire, but he's been contemplating leaving the rap game to become a better family man.
"I want to become a better father, I want to become a better man to my woman, and those things take time. And time takes away from this," he said.
Wayne's oldest daughter, Reginae Carter, 12, is poised to pursue a career in music herself.
"I have my kids; they're wonderful. My daughter has her career ahead of her now. I have to focus on that, and I have to put the same focus that I put in my career," he said.
As for when he'll finally walk away, Weezy admitted he wasn't sure and didn't want to initiate a drawn-out countdown. Previously he had talked about hanging it up at 35 or 31.
"I'm not sure; I'm not gonna Brett Favre y'all," he said, alluding to the on-again, off-again retirement plans of the NFL quarterback. "I'm not gonna draw it all the way out the whole year: 'We wondering, is Wayne gonna do this?' But the honest answer is I don't know."
Wayne fans can rest assured that they'll have plenty of new music to get them through this year at least. The Young Money captain dropped his latest mixtape, Sorry 4 the Wait, on Wednesday and has slated his long-awaited Tha Carter IV album for an August 29 release.
