Q&A: Rising R&B Star Amber Mark Teams Up with Aperol at Coachella

The singer chats about this year’s festival and the drink that became her all-time favorite cocktail.

If you happened to peep Grammy-nominated artist Amber Mark at last week's Coachella Festival, you probably saw her sipping on a glass of her favorite cocktail, an Aperol spritz. The rising star, who performed at Coachella last year, traveled to the  Colorado Desert to check out this year’s amazing headliners, including Bad Bunny, and Burna Boy. She enjoyed the show while teaming up with Aperol, the iconic Italian aperitivo.

Aperol provided festival goers (of legal drinking age) with the ultimate music festival experience where concert goers could meet up with friends to chill out throughout the day as well as unite music fans with the debut of the Aperol Spritz Piazza, an Italian Oasis hub. Music has always been at the heart of Aperol's foundation, ever since the brand first came to be in 1919 in Padova, Italy. Its founders, the Barbieri brothers, released an Aperol vinyl record in its earliest days. For the past several years, Aperol has been a supporting partner at major festivals globally.

Mark may have enjoyed some “me time” at Coachella, but she is back on the road and getting ready to hit the festival circuit this summer. Fans can check her out on stage at the Governors Ball Music Festival in New York City in June and again at the Life is Beautiful Music Festival in Las Vegas this September.

If you haven’t listened to her music, you definitely should put it on your to-do list. Last year she released her debut album, “Three Dimensions Deep,” a mix of funk, pop, and R&B. She also received a nomination for “Best Engineered Album” after a feature on Chromeo’s 2018 album “Head Over Heels." She has since been featured on NPR Tiny Desk and Color Studio.

BET.com spoke with Mark at the debut of the Aperol Spritz Piazza, about all things Coachella and what makes the Aperol Spritz her go-to festival cocktail.

BET.com: What makes Aperol so significant to your Coachella experience?

Amber Mark: This is the drink of the summer! Everyone’s having an Aperol spritz and it has become one of my go-to drinks. I discovered it for the first time while traveling in Italy and enjoyed it by the Mediterranean Sea. You can tap into that world just by having one here in the desert, and it just feels like you're on an instant vacation.

BET.com: Can you talk about your first time attending Coachella?

Amber Mark: It was the year that Beyoncé performed, ‘Beychella.’ That's the only reason I went. Before that, I was never really a music festival fan, to be honest, but she changed that outlook for me. It was an amazing experience to see Beyoncé. It was my third time seeing her, my first time at a festival, and she killed it. I honestly don’t even remember what other acts were there because I just came here for Beyoncé. It’s great to be out in the desert. I always thought this festival was sick, and it has been so cool to experience it again.

BET.com: What was it like to perform here last year?

Amber Mark: It was so nerve wracking. Weekend 2 was significantly harder for me, just like on my body and being able to give a good performance. I got very nervous about that. It’s Coachella, this is like the biggest festival in the world. I feel like you want to do it right and do it justice. There are so many acts here that absolutely kill it every year, and so you just want to make sure that you live up to all of those expectations.

BET.com: Who are you looking forward to seeing this year at Coachella?

Amber Mark: Obviously, Bad Bunny, Rosalia, and I can’t wait to see Jai Paul, SG Lewis, Remi Wolf, Pusha T, and Blink-182. And Beyoncé! Just kidding!
