Kamala Harris Raises Record $81 Million in 24 Hours and Secures Pledged Delegates
Kamala Harris is already breaking records.
According to her campaign team, the vice president raised $81 million in 24 hours after President Joe Biden’s endorsement. This is the largest amount of money raised in a 24-hour span in presidential history.
She also secured the support of at least 27 state delegations by Monday (July 22) night — surpassing the majority of Democratic delegates she will need to win the Democratic presidential nomination, CBS News reported. If those endorsements hold, delegations will officially nominate Harris for president during a virtual roll call next month, ahead of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Illinois.
Harris launched her campaign on Sunday (July 21) after Biden officially dropped out of the presidential race and endorsed her.
"The historic outpouring of support for Vice President Harris represents exactly the kind of grassroots energy and enthusiasm that wins elections," spokesperson for Harris' campaign Kevin Munoz said in a statement. "Already, we are seeing a broad and diverse coalition come together to support our critical work of talking to the voters that will decide this election."
