Wendy Williams Show Items to Be Added to Smithsonian Collection

The talk show host donated an outfit, a wig, her bedazzled mic and a "diva fan."

Wendy Williams is heading to the Smithsonian Museum! Well, almost. The talk show host has given some iconic items from The Wendy Williams Show for the National Museum of American History's entertainment collection. Among these items are her pink bedazzled microphone, the purple Tadashi wrap dress and Christian Louboutin shoes she wore for the show's first photo shoot, a wig head and ombre wig, a script of their 500th episode, and a light-up "diva fan" with her catchphrase, "How you doin'?"

Williams is the first talk show host to donate items to the museum, which she presented to the museum's curator, Dwight Blocker Bowers, during a recent taping of her show.

"I feel like it's an out-of-body experience," Williams said. "Going down in history. I can't believe it."

"Now it's someplace for my grandkids to go," she added. "Each item has sentimental value."

The National Museum of American History's television collection also includes costumes, props, and items from the sets of iconic shows like All in the Family and Seinfeld. There you will also find Dorothy's ruby slippers from The Wizard of Oz and Kermit the Frog. The collection began in May 2013 after the Smithsonian formed a three-year partnership with the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

"I'm so proud to host this messy little talk show," Williams told the New York Daily News. "And I'm thrilled to bits that one of America's most revered institutions — that I went to as a child! — deems me worthy enough to preserve this little bit of history for everyone to share."

"This is such an amazing honor. I'm not sure anything in my life has ever compared to it," Williams said. "To be in the Smithsonian alongside some of the best-known people and characters in entertainment history is just — words can't express how overwhelmed I feel right now."
