Simone Biles Stands By Her Man After He Declared 'I'm the Catch'
Simone Biles is coming to her husband's defense after he sparked outrage on social media last year by claiming he did not know who she was.
During the latest episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast hosted by Alex Cooper, the gymnast appeared on the show to discuss how the public's reaction toward her husband affected her and why she chose not to clap back, as reported by the Independent.
While Biles is considered the greatest gymnast of all time, Jonathan Owens claimed he had no idea she was a big deal in the sports world. That and other comments he made on "The Pivot" podcast in 2023 had people scratching their heads. The uproar who so grand that social media users were calling for Biles to divorce the Chicago Bears player.
“I thought it was hilarious at first, and then they hurt my feelings,” she explained. “And then one night, I broke down and I’m like:‘Why are you guys talking about my husband like this? Like, you don’t know him. You don’t know who he is. And if anybody’s met him, they know he’s the sweetest guy and will do anything for anybody.’”
Biles confessed those comments "hurt" her feelings.
“Because for me, it’s like: ‘Talk about me all you want, but don’t come for my family, never,’” she said. “Because I’ve been in the limelight long enough where I can brush things off, have my little powwow about it. You’re not going to know I cried about it, but I be crying about some stuff. But I only cry about it because I can’t clap back. Just know that.”
But the gymnastics star isn't one to do tic for tac.
When asked why she didn't address the critics on social media, she uttered, “I’d hurt their feelings.”
In April 2023, the couple tied the knot in an intimate ceremony. A month later, they had a second wedding in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
