Larry Wilmore Asks Bill de Blasio to Give Pot Smokers a Break
Larry Wilmore had a spirited chat with New York City mayor Bill de Blasio on the Nightly Show last night, and after some discussion about police brutality and the state of the mayor's relationship with cops following the "I Can't Breathe" protests, discussions turned to smoke. Marijuana, that is.
Asked by Wilmore when recreational marijuana will become legal in New York City, as it is becoming in other parts of the country, de Blasio answered that carrying a limited quantity of pot has already been reduced from an arrestable offense to a summons. "And just exactly how much marijuana can a person carry without getting arrested?" Wilmore asked, before clarifying, "I'm asking for a friend."
Wilmore then pulled up a question posed on Twitter by one @Chirlane, the handle of de Blasio's wife, Chirlane McCray, asking, "Did you or did you not promise to pick up the dry cleaning this weekend?" After de Blasio answered in the affirmative, adding that his wife is not someone he would cross, Wilmore joked, "So what you're trying to say is, Black Wives Matter?"
