Jay-Z Has More To Say About Meek Mill’s Sentencing

The hip-hop titan used his '4:44' tour stop in Dallas to deliver a powerful message.

After being slammed with a two-to-four year prison sentence, Meek Mill was swarmed with an outpouring of support from the rap community. Everyone from the likes of Snoop Dogg and T.I. to Tank offered the embattled rapper their thoughts and prayers.

Hip-hop heavyweight Jay-Z addressed the Dreamchasers' harrowing legal woes both in a recent Facebook post and during his latest 4:44 tour stop in Dallas.

In a fan-shot video from the concert, Jay momentarily suspended his set to discuss Meek's history with the criminal justice system. "Got a young man by the name of Meek Mill, he caught a charge when he was like 19 — he's 30 now [and] has been on probation 11 years," he told the crowd. While explaining the details of Meek's recent sentence to the crowd, Hov referenced standout track "The Story of OJ."

"This 4:44 album is all about us moving forward, moving past it," he continued in his speech. "In order for us to move past the s**t we going through, we have to address it. Everyone has to be just as outraged, [we] can't look at it as a black and white issue, we have to look at it as a human issue."

Hov then wrapped up his lengthy speech by saying, "Black people in particular, we have to get our s**t together. We not second class to anybody, we're equal to everybody. We deserved everything that everybody else gets — stop selling yourself short."
