Lil Wayne took a wrong step and repeatedly trampled the American flag during his video shoot in New Orleans recently. Wayne was filming the video for "God Bless Amerika" in his hometown, and a small clip found its way online.

The footage shows the YMCMB chief standing behind a huge flag that falls to his feet. From the looks of it, Wayne unknowingly walked up and down the flag as if were pavement, which didn't matter to some. "All Americans should treat [the flag] with respect,” said American Legion spokesman John Raughter, who never actually saw the video clip. "It is the American flag that is draped across the coffins of our fallen heroes when they come back from war. In fact, any veteran can have a flag on their coffin. As such, it’s entitled to the highest respect."

Aside from leaving footprints on the flag, his "God Bless Amerika" lyrics probably didn't help the situation. On the track, Wayne takes aim at the country's less than squeaky clean historic reputation rapping, "My country 'tis of thee/Sweet land of kill 'em all and let 'em die/God bless Amerika/This ole godless Amerika."
Before the outrage could fully boil over, a Twitter explanation emerged early this morning (June 18). "I didn't step on the flag on purpose! It's a scene in a video where the flag drops behind me and after it drop it's just there as I perform," the 30-year-old father of four tweeted.
Weezy is far from the most patriotic rapper in the game. Although not allowed to vote because of a felony conviction, he sometime uses music to address socio-political issues. In 2008, he dropped "Georgia Bush" a response to then President George Bush's blatant mishandling of, and disregard for, Hurricane Katrina victims initially branded as "refugees."

Keeping the "Amerika" theme going, Wayne will embark on his Amerikaz Most Wanted tour next month.
