White House Deputy Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre Tests Positive For COVID-19
Out of an “abundance of transparency,” White House principal deputy press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre revealed Sunday (March 27) that she tested positive for COVID-19 after returning from President Joe Biden's trip to Europe.
“I last saw the President during a socially distanced meeting yesterday, and the President is not considered a close contact as defined by CDC guidance. I am sharing the news of my positive test today out of an abundance of transparency,” stated Jean-Pierre, who said she’s vaccinated and boosted.
Jean-Pierre had traveled with Biden on Air Force One on a four-day excursion through Europe as he appealed to various countries to show solidarity against Russia as it continues its attacks against Ukraine, according to CNN. She experienced mild symptoms and will work from home for five days according to White House protocol, returning to work only after a negative test result.
Meanwhile, White House press secretary Jen Psaki is at the end of her requisite five-day isolation period after announcing March 22 on Twitter that she tested positive for COVID-19. The positive test result prevented her from traveling with Biden to Europe. Psaki, who said she’s fully vaccinated, experienced mild symptoms.
According to CNN, the president’s last publicly known negative COVID-19 test was Friday (March 25), the day he left Brussels for Warsaw.
