Bad News for the Cast of The Best Man
It took 14 years for us to get a sequel to the 1999 romantic comedy hit The Best Man, but after the box office success of The Best Man Holiday in 2013, we thought for sure the third installment would take a fraction of that time to hit theaters. In fact, Universal Pictures announced just after the sequel crossed the $100 million mark that the third installment, The Best Man Wedding, would arrive April 15, 2016.
That's this Friday.
Unless Universal is planning a Beyoncé-like surprise by dropping the film with zero marketing beforehand, we're pretty sure The Best Man Holiday has been delayed. In fact, director Malcolm D. Lee says it's been put off indefinitely.
“There is a desire to make the movie from the studio’s perspective, from my perspective, from the actors’ perspectives, we all would like to make it happen,” Lee told the NY Daily News. “It’s a matter of trying to get the right time of year to do it,” he said.
Apparently, the right time won't be anytime soon.
“Terrence [Howard] and Morris [Chestnut], they’re both on the Fox network and Taye [Diggs] is on TNT, Sanaa [Lathan] is about to do a Fox project, Regina [Hall] is doing something with Hulu. Harold [Perrineau] is always working, no matter what,” he explained, adding that money is also a factor and that it's imperative the budget “satisfies us all as artists, because nobody got paid a ton of money to make the first one."
Still, Lee says not to lose hope completely. “If it’s going to happen, it will happen before 14 years,” he concluded. In other words, don't hold your breath.
