Kerry Washington's Hairstylist Chats About the Scandal Star's Hair
Kerry Washington turned heads when she walked down the red carpet during recent Emmy Awards show. She not only nailed her red carpet style in an orange strapless column Prada gown with embellished edges, a hip-high slit, and a sparkling mini skirt underneath, but sported a new hairstyle as well. The Scandal star debuted a shoulder-length bob with ombre coloring that brightened up her look and paired beautifully with her colorful dress. In a recent interview with Styleblazer.com, Washington's hairstylist for the past 15 years Takisha Drew talked about the actress' new look, from where they draw style inspiration, and what haircut we'll never see on her.
"Yes, it was my decision," Drew said about the new ombre bob. "I told her it was time for a new fresh look and I thought she should cut and color it and she agreed. When I saw Kerry Washington, she just looked so young and fresh to me that I instantly thought of color and wanted to make her hair lighter. Then I saw her Prada dress and it was sexy, young and had bright color to it. My inspiration for this hairstyle was Kerry and her Prada dress."
Drew said that inspiration comes from the type of event Washington will be attending and that this latest look would have to be her favorite one yet "because of all the fun colors and long razored bob." To create the style, Drew sectioned off Washington's hair and dyed them different colors to lighten and create a beautiful ombre effect. She also used products from the Neutrogena Triple Repair Hair Care Collection to protect her hair from heat damage, give it shine, and make ends less susceptible to split ends.
"I created Kerry's look by parting her hair down the middle and then using a one and a half inch round brush to smooth out the roots, but kept a little texture in the hair as well to leave some volume. I finished Kerry's look off by using my 1 inch TI Infrared 450 Hair Art flat iron on very low heat to lock in the shine," Drew said.
