Oprah Winfrey Surprises Gayle King with an Unforgettable 70th Birthday Party
When it comes to grand gestures, Oprah Winfrey knows no bounds.
Over the weekend, the legendary media figure pulled off a heartwarming surprise for her best friend of 50 years, Gayle King, by celebrating her milestone 70th birthday with a star-studded bash at the restaurant Ci Siamo in New York City.
In footage uploaded to Instagram, Winfrey can be seen leading an unsuspecting King through the restaurant, where guests yelled, “Surprise!”
The shock was so intense that King jumped back, tossed her purse, and clutched her chest in disbelief. The longtime CBS anchor eventually recovered to enjoy the night with family and celebrity friends, including Angela Bassett, Ava DuVernay, and Stephen Colbert, along with King’s family.
“Oprah is theeeeeeee best of the best,” King wrote on Instagram. “I rarely feel like the belle of the ball, but I sure did that night.”
In another post that included photos and more clips from the event, King explained in the caption that the extravagant affair was reportedly six months in the making.
Meanwhile, in her own post, Winfrey joked about the challenges of keeping the party a secret, “The stories we have made up, the lies we have told,” she shared, before apologizing for “almost” giving King a heart attack.
