Jeezy: Donald Trump Isn't Capable of Being President
Donald Trump has dished out just as much (if not more) criticism than he’s received during his attempted run for office, yet no matter how popular he may be, that doesn’t mean he's qualified to run the country, according to Jeezy.
The very idea of Trump becoming president is unfathomable to the Atlanta rapper, he revealed in a Daily Beast interview. Though Jeezy recorded a track called “Trump” four years ago, and acknowledges that the real estate mogul is a “great business man” who “understands publicity,” he’s not endorsing the White House bid.
“I don’t think he’s capable of being the commander-in-chief. He has the ego, but he doesn’t have the charisma," said Jeezy.
"Sometimes other things outweigh money…I don’t think he’s a leader," continued the CTE front man. "I think he’s a great businessman, but I don’t think he’s a leader. If he’s elected president, what does that mean for the middle class? What does that mean for America? He’s doing multi-million dollar deals overseas — what does that mean for the people of America? Is he going to be able to help us?”
Trump’s perceived ego is certainly still intact, if last night’s GOP debate was any indication. He verbally dominated with one-liners, despite failing to outline concrete plans on important subjects like foreign policy, and immigration. The lack of clear vision could be why the 69-year-old mogul didn’t exactly win last night’s debate, as Carly Fiorina, Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio and the remaining Republican candidates, battled to be heard.
Jeezy watched the debate from Atlanta along with Larenz Tate, and other friends. From what he gathers, Trump’s Achilles heel is an inability to connect with voters. “When Barack Obama was put in office, we viewed him as a man of the people,” he explained. “When I say ‘people,’ I don’t just mean minorities; I mean middle class and lower class people, in general. He [Obama] was the closest thing in a while to people like [Ronald] Reagan and [Bill] Clinton. With him about to leave office, America is going to be a different place, no matter who is commander-in-chief.”
Win or lose, Jeezy believes Trump is a “rock star” and he doesn’t think rappers should shun him. “When it comes to America and our culture — especially hip hop — we glorify anybody who’s made a way for himself,” Jeezy explained. “We love gangsters from El Chapo to people like Trump. They’re no different; they’re tycoons of what they do. You can’t take that out of it.
"He’s a smart businessman, and anything he does is going to be great for his business. Even getting that far into the debate and actually being the lead shows that his money, his connections, his ego and his charisma got him that far. He’s a rock star — you can’t take that away from him. But we don’t need a rock star running the country. When it’s time to make a decision, do you trust Donald Trump with the button?”
