NYU the Latest University to Distance Itself From Bill Cosby
New York University is the latest institution to turn its back on Bill Cosby. Following a storm of controversy and a damning deposition detailing his sexual misconduct with dozens of women, the educational institution has removed Cosby's name from the Future Filmmakers Workshop.
NYU “removed the Cosby name in light of recent events,” a university spokesman, Matt Nagel, confirmed in an email to the New York Times on Wednesday. He said the university would not comment further.
Thankfully, the purging of the Cosby name from the program doesn't seem like it will impact the students very much. The extent of Cosby's involvement with the workshop was showing up at some fundraising dinners in the 1990s.
Of course, this isn't the first university to distance itself from Cosby. In July, Central State University in Ohio covered the Cosby name on the sign of its Mass Communications Center, which was named after the comedy icon and his wife, Camille Cosby. He was pressured into stepping down from the Board of Trustees from Temple University and High Point University, and an endowment he made to Spelman College has been discontinued.
