Tribe Called Quest Doc Nominated for Producer's Guild Award

Beats, Rhymes & Life missed out on an Oscar nod, but it's up for Best Documentary at the PGAs.

The critically acclaimed film Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest has been nominated for Documentary of the Year by the Producer's Guild Awards.
The Michael Rapaport–directed doc will face off against four other lauded films, Bill Cunningham New York, Project Nim, Senna and The Union. The winners will be announced and awarded on January 21.

The PGAs are considered a barometer for which films will get nominated and ultimately win at the Oscars, which will take place the following month. Nonetheless, the Academy did not include Beats, Rhymes & Life in their 15-film shortlist of documentaries to be considered for nomination at the 2012 Oscars.
Despite the Oscar snub, the PGA nomination is a great look for the film, the director and Tribe themselves. Congratulations!
