Omar Epps, Kimberly Elise Set New Projects
It's going to be a busy summer for Omar Epps and Kimberly Elise. Both actors announced exciting new projects. Elise joins VH1's first original drama pilot, Bounce, about a team of professional basketball dancers. If it gets picked up to series, Bounce will be VH1's second scripted series after the Queen Latifah-produced Single Ladies (which was adapted from a feature film).
Epps is adding screenwriter and producer to his résumé with Between Us, a romantic comedy he wrote. Epps will also star in the film, described as a story about two best friends "looking for love in the wrong places with a contemporary twist," and it will be produced with Tracey Edmonds.
The project is being financed by Young Money/Cash Money Records CEOs Bryan "Baby" Williams and Ronald "Slim" Williams. “They loved the concept and in a perfect world, we’ll be shooting late summer or early fall, but you know how that goes,” Epps tells Deadline.com, adding that the search for a director is currently underway.
Epps's other projects under his BrooklynWorks Films banner include television drama Southern Gothic, which he will produce with Alfre Woodard, and travel show Mile High, starring David Arquette and set to air on the Travel Channel. His film projects include the recently completed musical You, Me & The Circus.
