#BlackExcellence: This 19-Year-Old Cello Player Had All Eyes On Him At The Royal Wedding
Saturday was about Meghan Markle, Prince Harry, and their wedding, however those in attendance, as well as people watching at home, left some space for praise of someone outside the couple.
19-year-old Sheku Kanneh-Mason from England was the winner of the 2016 BBC Young Musician competition and was presented the opportunity to play his cello at the royal wedding. And he killed it!
Originally, Harry saw Kanneh-Mason play in June at an event for the Halo Foundation in London. Kanneh-Mason said he was “bowled over” when Ms. Markle called him to ask for the favor.
“I immediately said yes!” he replied. “What a privilege to be able to play the cello at such a wonderful event. I can’t wait!”
Unsurprisingly, Sheku’s sister is also a talented musician who plays piano. Watch Isata perform Rachmaninov for a recital below.
