Jennifer Holliday recently announced that she's decided to pull out of her scheduled performance at president-elect Donald Trump's inauguration, next week.

The "And I Am Telling You" singer penned an open letter obtained by The Wrap where she apologized to the LGBT community for initially accepting the offer and ultimately called it a "lapse of judegment."

The singer explained in the detailed letter her initial reasons for wanting to perform in the first place and added that a widely shared article published by the Daily Beast prompted her to change her mind.

"I was asked to sing a song for what was presented to me as the 'Welcome Concert For the People,'" she wrote. "In my mind, I was reflecting on the past times of being asked to sing for presidents and I only focused on the phrase 'For the People'... I thought... For America!"

She went on to say that she wanted her voice to be a unifying agent given the current division througout the country.

"I was honestly just thinking that I wanted my voice to be a healing and unifying force for hope through music to help our deeply polarized country," she said. "Regretfully, I did not take into consideration that my performing for the concert would actually instead be taken as a political act against my own personal beliefs and be mistaken for support of Donald Trump and Mike Pence."

Making her stance clear, she then said she ultimately decided to "stand with the LGBT Community," and "state unequivocally" that she "will not perform for the welcome concert or for any of the inauguration festivities."
