Chuck D Responds To TakeOff’s Murder, Calls Out Gun Violence
Rap legend Chuck D is calling out the hip-hop industry and urging them to address the gun violence that has taken over and killing rappers at an alarming rate.
The co-founding member of Public Enemy shared with TMZ that the horrific and sudden killing of Migos rapper TakeOff who was shot and killed in the crossfire at a private event in Houston on Tuesday (Nov. 1) is a “tragedy” and that the “pain is unbearable.”
“It’s not normal behavior,” says the Rock And Roll Hall of Famer, but “through culture, it’s been normalized over the years.”
Chuck D, who is also a member of the Hip-Hop Alliance, also points out that the cause of death through gun violence has been normalized in pop culture that didn’t exist in the ‘80s and ‘90s.
“We’ve taken the motive to make a statement to let everybody know that the music and the art form is beautiful,” he adds, saying that holding a gun should be considered “abnormal behavior.”
The killer connected to TakeOff’s death, whose real name is Kirshnik Khari Ball, is still on the loose and the Houston Police Department is urging the public to come forward with more information that could help with the case.
In a press conference on Tuesday (Nov. 1) Sgt. Michael Arrington, the lead investigator on the case, said, “We know the media has received a lot of phone calls, text messages, tweets, vines, videos. We need all of y’all to send those to us so we can solve this case.”
Adding, “We want to find justice for this family. They’re going through a lot right now … Help us to apprehend and get charges and arrest the person responsible for the death of Takeoff.”
