Nate Parker Named Ambassador of Reach Back Campaign
Activist, filmmaker and writer Nate Parker has joined the Concerned Black Men (CBM) program and is now the face of its Reach Back Campaign. CBM, which is supported by President Barack Obama and seeks to improve mentoring opportunities in underserved communities, is hoping to increase the number of professionals that participate in the initiative’s workshops.
Parker’s partnership with the Reach Back Campaign will run through August 15, 2015, and will include events that will draw attention to their mission.
"As a man whose life has been shaped by the wisdom and guidance of many mentors, I am proud to be a part of an organization that promotes and facilitates 'reaching back' in an effort to support and cultivate our youth," Parker said.
CBM was founded in 1975 when a group of Philadelphia police officers sponsored events to keep at-risk youth away from gang influence. By providing them with positive role models and access to professional adults, they could be motivated to rise up and take advantage of the academic opportunities afforded to them.
