Taraji and Denzel Slay the Golden Globes
That's a wrap on another year of the Golden Globes. This year's show was a pull-no-punches affair, thanks to Ricky Gervais's hosting. The actor and comedian spared no one with his nasty wit and disdain for Hollywood, leaving plenty of people feeling pretty uncomfortable. From Sylvester Stallone's alleged diss of Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan to a Caitlyn Jenner joke that had nobody — especially not Queen Latifah — laughing, the drama was ripe this year.
But nothing could spoil the night for Taraji P. Henson, who won her first Golden Globe Award for her role as Cookie Lyon on Empire. The actress wouldn't let anybody rush her off the stage once she was on it, holding that statuette, telling the show's producer, "I waited 20 years for this. You gon' wait." Tell 'em, Cookie!
Denzel Washington accepted the night's Cecille B. DeMille Award for his lifetime achievement in cinema, and brought his entire family — include his super hot son, Ballers actor John David Washington — on stage to celebrate with him. After a cute exchange with wife Pauletta Washington over whether or not he should be wearing his glasses, Washington thanked those who are important in his life, including the Hollywood Foreign Press, who he says "always made me feel like a friend, or part of the party."
Best Motion Picture - Comedy went to — inexplicably — Matt Damon's hit The Martian. The night's biggest award, Best Motion Picture - Drama, went to Alejandro Iñarritu's opus The Revenent. Leonardo DiCaprio also won Best Actor for the leading role in the same film.
That leaves awards season down to the Oscars! Nominations for the Academy Awards will be announced this coming week.
