New Documentary Gets Black Women Talking About Hair

"In Our Heads About Our Hair" calls for acceptance of all hair types.

Chris Rock might have gotten a conversation going about Black women and their hair with his 2009 documentary Good Hair, but he's certainly not the last one to do so. A new documentary titled In Our Heads About Our Hair seeks to do the same when it premieres at the BAMcinématek New Voices in Black Cinema film festival February 20 in Brooklyn, New York.
Directed by Hemamset Angaza and produced by Anu Prestonia, Maitefa Angaza and Paulette Maat Kesa Tab, the film looks into how hair ties into self-esteem from the point of view of Black women and ultimately calls for acceptance of all hair types. Women young and old — and even men — pipe in about what different hairstyles and techniques mean to them.
Take a look at the trailer below and let us know what you think about the upcoming film. Do you give your own hair a lot of thought?
