Though they don't know each other personally, Pusha T and Lil Wayne have written enough lyrics about each other over the years to fill a book. In a new interview with Booska-P, Pusha explains that taking aim at Weezy and the rest of his Young Money crew is, for him, an act of self-preservation.
"It's not a personal beef. I don't personally know any of them," he says. "These guys have made great music in their day. These guys have fans, tons of fans, so I can't really let anybody with that many fans and that type of visibility and that type of history, I can't just let them make statements against me and be quiet about it. That can be viewed as a victory."
Pusha went on to argue that he always puts quality of music first, and that the diss tracks he has made stand apart from those of his rivals in that regard.
"I think that I was shaking souls with 'Exodus,'" he said, referring to his most high-profile jab against Young Money, "Exodus 23:1." "I think I was shaking souls with 'New God Flow.' I think that Alley Boy verse, 'Your Favorite Rapper,' is one of the best verses ever. I know things like that scare people. I know that when I say things like that, I know that hurts. Those are good lines. Those are lines that are great. And that's what I look to give the fans, like 'Man, you want great lines? You'll get that.'"
