The Walls Group, Trip Lee to Headline Music Matters September Showcase
Summer is pretty much over but BET Music Matters is giving New York City’s hip hop and gospel fans a reason to turn up one more time before preparing for fall.
Houston, Texas-based singers The Walls Group and Dallas-bred Christian rapper Trip Lee headline this month’s showcase, which is set to take place Tuesday (Sept. 9) at one of NYC’s most venerable music hot spots, S.O.B.'s.
Lee sent a shock wave through his fan base back in 2012 when he announced his retirement from making music. The 26-year-old MC later clarified that he would simply be toning down his touring schedule and strengthening his focus on becoming a pastor. Despite his busy schedule, the charismatic rhymer looks to drop his fifth studio album, Rise, later this year. Perhaps he'll give a preview of some of those cuts.
Surely the Walls Group, who were picked up by Kirk Franklin and his Fo Yo Soul Entertainment company, will deliver songs from their latest, Fast Forward. The album dropped last month with features from Franklin, Brandy and Lecrae.
The night also features background-singer-turned-solo-artist GoGo Morrow, who will show the crowd what they can expect from her upcoming debut album, Chris Echols and Katt Rockell, who will open the show and hosts Buttahman and Celeste Seda kicking things off at 8 p.m.
DJ Lyve and Max October are slated to put in work behind the turntables between sets. The show is free but don’t forget your ID, as it is a 21-and-over affair.
Fans that are feeling the sounds that Music Matters has been putting down should also check out the Music Matters Vol. 1 Compilation, which features some of the biggest hits from some of Music Matters’ most prominent alumni.
