Simone Biles Roots For Husband Jonathan Owens at Green Bay Packers Debut
Newlyweds Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens are still going strong. On Friday, the gymnast showed her hubby some love during his debut with the Green Bay Packers.
"GO 34" Biles wrote in an Instagram Story Friday (Aug. 11), according to PEOPLE. On a zoomed in shot from mid-game play, she wrote, "My lil baby."
The couple tied the knot earlier this spring in two ceremonies – first at a Texas courthouse ceremony in April and again in an extravagant Cabo San Lucas wedding a month later, around the same time Owens signed with the Packers with Biles by his side.
"New beginnings. Perfect cap to an amazing week. Let’s get to work," he wrote in an Instagram post. "Year 6 on the way‼️"
Owens’ Packers debut comes on the heels of Biles’ recent return to gymnastics competition. The four-time Olympic gold medalist gave the sold-out crowd at the NOW Arena in Chicago an electric performance Aug. 5, though she's only been back in training since April.
In the all-around event, Biles posted a score of 59.100, which put her far out in front of competitors.
"I think the night went really well," Biles said. "Everything has fallen into place. I feel really good about where I am right now, mentally and physically. There are some things to work on in my routines, but for the first meet back, I would say it went pretty well. I'm very shocked and surprised."
Biles had been on hiatus since the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, when she took herself out of competition due to a mental block that gymnasts call "the twisties." Her announcement sparked a larger, ongoing conversation about athletes' mental health, particularly amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Prior to competing in Chicago, she shared with fans that she was continuing to prioritize her mental health.
"Lots of therapy, I go once a week for almost 2 hours," she wrote in response to a fan who asked her how she was managing her mental well-being, according to PopSugar. "I've had so much trauma, so being able to work on some of the traumas & work on healing is a blessing."
