The Parents Television Council isn't too pleased with Rihanna's latest music video, "Man Down," which premiered on BET's 106 & Park yesterday. The song, about a young woman who seeks revenge against a man who raped her, opens with a graphic murder scene.

According to TMZ, the PTC claims that the strong images irresponsibly suggest that shooting a rapist in public is a proper form of justice.  

As previously reported, Anthony Mandler, the director for the much-hyped video, justified the shocking visuals saying, "It's just one of those songs that demands a strong narrative and visual, and let's just say she let me go all the way. So I think you can expect something that's dramatic and shocking and intense and emotional and uplifting and enlightening." 

The PTC doesn't agree with this description at all, but, more important, they're upset that Rihanna told her Twitter followers that the video displayed "a very strong underlying message 4 girls like me." 

BET Networks issued a statement clarifying its decision to air the video.

"BET Networks has a comprehensive set of standards and guidelines that are applied to all of our content. The Rihanna "Man Down" video complied with these guidelines and was approved for air. At the same time, it is clear that the "Man Down" video has sparked a passionate dialogue and we will continue this conversation with our audience tonight on "106 & Park."

On tonight’s episode of BET’s 106 & Park, co-hosts Terrence and Rocsi will open up a dialogue on the topic.
