Condoleezza Rice Mentioned As Possible Candidate To Replace Mark Emmert As NCAA President
The NCAA is looking for a new president, and Condoleezza Rice could be the next.
Current president Mark Emmert is stepping down in 2023. The Athletic is reporting that the former Secretary of State is among those who could be candidates in consideration for the job.
Rice’s interest, according to the sports news outlet, is currently unknown. Currently she is the director of the Hoover Institution at Stanford. Previously she worked in college sports as a former member of the College Football Playoff selection committee and chair of the Commission on College Basketball.
The other names floated by The Athletic include Clemson president Jim Clements, interim Michigan president Mary Sue Coleman, former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, former Robert Morris president Chris Howard, former West Virginia athletic director Oliver Luck, Baylor president Linda Livingstone, SEC commissioner Greg Sankey and Washington State president Kirk Schulz.
